Our wines have been reviewed with excellent results:
Vini d’Italia 2006 –Gambero Rosso (Slow Food Editore)
We could say that Filippo Rocchi has granted himself a break of reflection , now that he has rightly postponed the issue of Brecciolino ’03, the company’s best cru, with a basis of Sangiovese, Petit verdot and Merlot. The tasting results of this year have been discreet, but we are convinced that the expressed potential is only in a minimum part the real one.
In these years, Filippo has concentrated himself a lot on the restoration of the vineyards and the results of all the improvements, in the vineyard as well as in the cellar, will be perceived mostly as from next year. The property extends over 73 hectares, including 32 hectares of vineyards, supervised by Valerio Barbieri, while the part related to wine making is managed by Luca D’Attoma. “Début” of the Chianti Colli Fiorentini Vigna La Quercia ’03, which will replace the Riserva, becoming a selection. Intense ruby color, a variegated nose, where marks of red berry fruits meet hints of mint and spices. In the mouth, the start is juicy, charming, warm, with a good strength and structure. Savoury finish. Nice is the Santa Caterina ’03, outstanding relation quality and price. Fresh and fruity nose, enjoyable in the mouth.
The Chianti Colli Fiorentini ’03 with slightly veiled perfumes, has a powerful body, to be adjusted a little, pulpy tannins and a well perceived vivid acidity. Finally, Numero Otto ’04, 100% black canaiolo, ripe nose and sense of stewed fruit. Although nimble in the mouth, dominates a bit too obviously the acidity.

Vini Buoni d’Italia. La guida ai vini dai vitigni autoctoni. I 1000 migliori produttori (2006)
The winery of Castelvecchio, located in the panoramic part of San Pancrazio, offers a wide range of wines at reasonable prices, most of them with a traditional set-up. To bottle a white wine like San Lorenzo, the family of Filippo Rocchi uses the most typical Tuscan vines, Trebbiano and Malvasia. The result is a pure and fresh taste. The Chianti Colli Fiorentini presents an intense perfume that reminds tobacco and spices and is very well balanced. Vigna La Quercia Docg offers a bouquet of hay and aromatic herbs, also clearly present in the mouth and results warm and intense. We recommend also the few bottles of a Canaiolo in pureness and a Vin Santo.
Cultivated autocthonous vines : Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino, Trebbiano, Malvasia

Chianti Santa Caterina 2003
When observing the Chianti Santa Caterina 2003, one notes a beautiful red colour, whether the nose puts in evidence intense perfumes of blackberry, fresh acidity and balanced tannins. This wine, ideal as an accompaniment for a complete meal, has a fresh palate of summer fruits and a medium body, not too intrusive and elegant.
L’Almanacco del Berebene 2006 – Gambero Rosso
Chianti Santa Caterina ‘03
Excellent drinkability, intense ruby color, hints of fresh fruit and a long and savoury taste, tight and distinct.
San Lorenzo ‘04
Le guide de L’Espresso Vini d’Italia 2006
Important and significant signs from the company managed by Filippo Rocchi. The style of the wines is taking shape and peculiarity, following a project of revaluation of the territory which today appears decidedly more focused, with good promises for the future.

Sensations : Its melange of ripe plum, oak fragrances, evolution of oxidation, offers a smooth and sweet perfume. Its extracting abundance makes its visual aspect attractive for the concentration of the colour, for the dense production of coloured and glycerine legs on the glass. Very smooth and persistent mouthfeel. When swallowed, tannins are accentuated, but wrapped in soft and balsamic spices in the long echo of the black currant. An example of great ripeness of fruit, qualified by an excellent oenologic cleaning.
