Duemilavini 2007 – AIS ( Italian Association sommelier-Rome)
Beautiful territory between Certaldo and San Casciano Val di Pesa, which contributes to represent worthily the denomination of the Chianti Colli Fiorentini. The investments and the efforts of the family Rocchi continue with increasing enthusiasm through planting of new vineyards and a great attention to the redefinition of the gamma, always more aimed at the characteristics of the territory. With each harvest thus, something new and a rearrangement in the composition of the blend. This year a good comeback of the Brecciolino and the first appearance of a Canaiolo in pureness with good body.

Chianti Colli Fiorentini Il Castelvecchio 2004
Rosso Docg – Sangiovese 90%, Merlot 10% - 13,5%
Brilliant ruby, dark in the centre. Decided olfactory neatness in its perfumes of violet and carnation, cherry, tobacco and balsamic hints. Velvet impact that gives way to a good and dense tannin supported by a noble acidity. Good body and good recurrences of spices and humus. Long fruity persistence.
Roasted Cinta pork.
Score : 84
Chianti Colli Fiorentini Vigna La Quercia Riserva 2003
Rosso Docg – Sangiovese 90%, Cabernet Sauvignon 10% - 13,5%
Compact ruby. Liquorice, tobacco and dark spices crown the decided fruity evidence. A hint of rhubarb. Taste of a certain engagement, with a tannin that extends widely, supported by a good freshness and suggestions of chocolate, plum, tobacco and black pepper.
Veal médaillons in sauce.
Score : 80
Chianti Santa Caterina 2004
Rosso Docg – Sangiovese 100% - 13%
Very dark ruby and compact. Fruity nose and a light note of fumé. In the mouth : good tannin, releases flavours of fruit and liquorice, with some acidity that makes it easily drinkable. A contribution of wood still in the course of integration, determines a persistence with a light hint of almond.
Veal with mushrooms.
We hope that the link with the territory is reaching more and more the vineyard, as fully happens in the Chianti Classico.
…. Il Vigna La Quercia di Castelvecchio is demonstrating how this not only possible, but even more convenient for the vintners, who just aiming at the quality are able to give a new boost to the company’s profitability.
Vini d’Italia 2007 – Gambero Rosso (Slow Food Editore)
Let’s start this sheet dedicated to the Estate of the Rocchi family with a fair correction. The Chianti Santa Caterina that we tasted last year belonged to the vintage 2003 and thus the one we tasted this year is of 2004. The general result has been satisfactory, although not of the high level which Filippo Rocchi, the real motor of the winery for his lavish engagement either in the cellar as in the vineyard, has got used us to. All the work is carried out with great attention. Sometimes, however, things are not going as they were estimated and this year the quality sault, we had expected, has failed.
The Brecciolino ’03, the estate’s Supertuscan with a base of Sangiovese, Petit verdot and Merlot, has an impenetrable colour and a fruity nose with intriguing spicy marks of cinnamon and cloves. On the palate appears sweet, delicate with a good inclusion of the tannic component.
Less convincing is the Vigna La Quercia ’04 of the Chianti Colli Fiorentini, with at first a confusing nose that changes to animal perfumes of fur and leather. Mouth not too coordinated, although pulpy, with well-perceptible tannins.
Numero Otto ’05, Canaiolo in pureness, marks itself for its fresh tones, even with a slight taste of mint and a slim body, not oppressive, well supported by a tasty acid backbone.
Agreeable as always the Chianti Colli Fiorentini’04, simple but with a general good harmony. The
Chianti Santa Caterina ’04 appears lightly dried up by tannins, but is still easy to drink and has an appetizing finish.

L’Almanacco del Berebene 2007 – Gambero Rosso
Chianti Colli Fiorentini “Il Castelvecchio” 2004
Filippo Rocchi is one of the most enthusiastic producers of the denomination Colli Fiorentini, between the most dynamic ones of the Chianti territory. He believes in the Sangiovese, which he uses according to the typology of production.
The vintage 2004 has a fresh and sprightly perfume with floral marks and a well defined cherry, good body, juicy and savoury, but not too tannic. Excellent long and agreeable finish.

Il Brecciolino 2003 (Score 86)
Consistency : 31 – Balance : 28 – Integrity : 27
Sensations : concentration and supreme spiciness of great softness. The strength of this wine is the dense and powerful mass of its extracts : impressive the concentration, hence the persistence of the taste. Excellent moreover is the balance of the taste : the smoothiness that one notices and that is counterbalanced very well by the acid nerve and a structural tannish backbone, not too bitter. Marked the woody spiceness, remarkable the remaining freshness : the fresh and tonic fruit. It’s well that the woody aroma is soft and convincing, so that it is always a pleasure to perceive a balsamic note, indeed intensely pulpy.

Conclusive comment: The qualitative improvement doesn’t limit itself to the increase of consistency and roundness, but concerns as well the integrity : the perception of cleaner and more fragrant aromas. Of strong olfactory intensity and of great freshness the

I vini d’Italia 2007 – Le guide de l’Espresso
Filippo Rocchi manages with passion and competence the family estate with the intention of making wines not simply based on homologated models, though in harmony with the peculiar character of the proper vineyards. An admirable project that has to be pursued in the awareness that to realize it the road taken can be very satisfactory but at the same time, needs the right patience and perseverance. The results of the tastings are reassuring, but surely the ambitions of the owner are aiming higher.

Chianti Colli Fiorentini Il Castelvecchio 2004 – score 86
Not an easy wine, although with an intriguing mineral personality, nearly hydrocarbonic aftertaste. Good structure, with oak and tannins that still should blend. I’d wait still one year.
Superpirates for supertuscans
Il Brecciolino 2003 – score 88
The Brecciolino was never in such a good shape as in this vintage. Of course one notices still the oak, but it has a remarkable tannic backbone that is trustful for the future.
