Vini d’Italia 2010 – Gambero Rosso
The estate of the family Rocchi, now that they completed the range of wines, has reached its full maturity. A wide range, from the most simple ones, linked to an idea of a daily wine to the more ambitious ones, in which either the vines of the territory as the international ones are emphasized.
An engagement, accomplished with great enthusiasm and passion by Filippo, who is taking care of the wines and the cellar, whether his sister Stefania is in charge of the commercial part.
Numero Otto ’07 is a high-level wine, produced of Canaiolo grapes, with gentle perfumes of aromatic herbs and redcurrant, lithe body, a divine balance in acidity. The finish is sweet and long. Delicious is also the Vin Santo ’03, first entry in this blend, with intense perfumes of hazelnut and figs, velvety body, sweet but far from nauseating. Excellent are also Brecciolino ’06, sangiovese with merlot and petit verdot and the version of ’07 Chianti Colli Fiorentini, fresh and palatable. Not to forget the new entry of Orme in Rosso ’07, same blend as Brecciolino, but with a small addition of Cabernet
Sauvignon.
Numero Otto ’07 – 2 red glasses ( wines from very good to excellent that have reached the final tastings)

Best wine : Il Brecciolino 2006 – (score : 86)
Consistency: 31 – Balance : 27 – Integrity : 28
Sensations : it is the wild, marvellous sweetness fruit/spices of the incepit of its perfume, that is worth the contact with this organolectic entity. Rarely one finds himself embraced by such a sweet perfume. Certainly the bay oak has an important role, but it would never be possible to perceive such an harmonious and viscous softness with intense spices if the fruit wasn’t so rich and powerful, able to involve in the dense structure of its aroma, a vein of sweetness so vigorously insistent. The fruit is dense, mature, pulpy with lots of tannin.

Final comment :
Consistency and softness in the Castelvecchio glass is growing well. For the fragrance we are waiting for better years to come. Grapes of 2006 and 2007 were in most cases not complete, however here the grapes are of a virtuous clarity and turgidity. The softness of the Vinsanto del Chianti 2003 is really impressive and imposing, its glicerine is well presented. Of great plumpness the Chianti Il Castelvecchio 2007, more balsamic is the Chianti Santa Caterina 2007. Orme in Rosso 2007 is a champion of great pulp and superior drinkability, very pleasant in the mouth for its expressive softness. Tasted wine is the Brecciolino 2006 : vivid and crispy on the palate, of great thickness and excellent softness . A redcurrant with vanilla flavor. Compliments.

Rosso Toscano Igt Il Brecciolino 2006 - 94/100
Powerful aromas of blackberry, vanilla and blueberry. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit, supervelvety tannins and a rich, fruity finish. Very complex on the finish, with berry, toasty oak and chocolate. Sangiovese, Petit Verdot and Merlot. Best after 2011 (James
Suckling)
Chianti Colli Fiorentini Il Castelvecchio 2007 - 89/100
Plum and strawberry aromas lead to a full body, with silky tannins and a long flavorful finish.
Drink now.
Rosso Toscano Igt Il Brecciolino 2005 - 91/100
Chianti Colli Fiorentini Vigna La Quercia Riserva 2006 - 88/100
Offers plum, milk chocolate and fresh herbs on the nose. Full-bodied, with a lot ripe fruit underneath. Shows potential, but needs a little bottle age to take some of the kick away from the barrel aging. Best after 2010.
Chianti Santa Caterina 2007 – 84/100

“How many wineries at this part of the Chianti area succeed to make wines that meet the standard of the family Rocchi? Very few ones and this year the range is particularly
convincing.”(Daniel Thomases)
Vini Buoni d’Italia 2010 (Touring Ed.)
Castelvecchio certainly is the winery of reference in the area of Colli Fiorentini (Florentine Hills), a wine zone rarely represented in our guide due to the feeble inclination to use autoctonous varietals. And the fact that Filippo Rocchi made up his form without his Vin Santo, that actually is still refining, tells enough. The Chianti Santa Caterina 2007 has a praiseworthy focusing for a product of this range.
The good maturity of the fruit gives the wine a relaxing and refreshing drinkability. Coherent final, clean, without a big complexity. Numero Otto, beautiful wine produced of Black Canaiolo grapes, is the concrete proof of the power of this cultivar, usually disregarded.
Chianti Docg Santa Caterina 2007 – 3 stars . Good balance quality/price.

Chianti Colli Fiorentini ’07 Il Castelvecchio
A certainty the Chianti Colli Fiorentini produced by the Rocchi family who follows with great passion the estate. The colour is clean
ruby. The nose is intriguing with its complex perfumes of forest fruits and
cherry. Of great plumpness, with blended tannins. The good sapidity accompanies it to an important
persistence.

Chianti Colli Fiorentini: a need to establish strengths and characteristics of the wines and the
sub-area By Ian D’Agata (www.iandagata.com )
Castelvecchio : Very promising estate that is worthy of a long look with many great
wines. And plenty of high
quality canaiolo nero, the perfect complementary grape to sangiovese in Chianti....
don’t believe,
for a second, all that some tell you about the need for cabernet or merlot along with sangiovese,
It’s simply not true, but certainly an easier way out. Traditional wines that benefit from some
excellent,
small berried clones of sangiovese.
2006 Numero 8: 100% Canaiolo nero. Pale ruby. A pomegranate, redcurrant fruit bomb with
lively acids. You just start drinking and never want to put the glass back down.
Great,
2006 Chianti Santa Caterina: a little neutral but with a hint of balsamic vinegar complementing
the redcurrant aromas and flavours present. Could be called a Colli Fiorentini but sold at such a
low price they do not want to lower the perceived quality image of the sub-zone by selling the
wine too cheap.
2006 Chianti Colli Fiorentini: about 90% sangiovese and 10% merlot. Twelve months in small
oak barrels that have been twice and thrice used. Very saline note on the high acid finish that
also shows a tinge of bitterness that nicely lifts the redcurrant and red cherry aromas and
flavours. "SAINT IS HIS
